World Cancer Day falls on February 4th and its purpose is to raise awareness for the disease so that money can be raised to more effectively detect, prevent and treat it. The day was founded by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and the main intention of today is to significantly lower the sickness and death rates caused by cancer by 2020. Multiple campaigns run throughout the day to show support to those suffering from the disease, a popular movement is #NoHairSelfie where participants shave their heads as a symbol of courage for the undergoing cancer treatment.
