Christine Dingley our Care & Well-being Manager has only been here for just over three months but she has already proven that she's well qualified for the role and has attended a Housing & Health conference during May. There were eleven speakers from both Housing and Health backgrounds. The coming White paper - Housing care system was mentioned and what's needed for supported housing to "start, live and age well".

Representatives from a number of different projects were seeking funding from NHS out of the £100 million they now have spare. The Health & wellbeing strategy was discussed and how it was to involve and empower people, through healthy living schemes to reduce social isolation.

Examples shown in the conference took place in Northern England where there is high social deprivation with large numbers of homeless people. Many helpful things were discussed there such as the fact that those with mental health problems are more likely to live in degraded housing which can then further escalate their symptoms.
