Lench's Trust Weekly Coronavirus Update

Issue 22 - 1st March 2021

Stay Safe & Well

As expected the Prime Minister’s roadmap to ease the current restrictions is very cautious, with a number of tests to be checked at every stage - including the number of new infections per day and the number of people in hospitals. The key stages, which will inform how we relax the lockdown measures within Lench’s Trust, are as follows:

  • Schools reopening as from 8th March (be careful as there will be more people out, including in public transport)
  • Outdoor gatherings in groups of 6 people or 2 households maximum permitted as from Easter
  • Reopening of non-essential retail outlets as from April
  • Reopening of hospitality in May
  • By the summer (21st June earliest) a further relaxation of social contact, including possible mixing indoors

In the past few weeks we have had a few scares with residents developing symptoms and requiring a Covid test – luckily enough the majority have proven to be negative but I would like to remind you that residents are increasing the risks to themselves and to their fellow residents by going out and about in the community and by meeting in groups within the schemes. Please, please, be careful for your own sake and for your friends’ sake – the vaccine alone cannot protect you & your loved ones.

The vaccination programme of all residents and staff continues to make great progress with 81.86% of the residents across the 3 schemes having received at least their first jab.

It is also good to report that 83.72% of the staff have received their first jab, as frontline key workers.

On a brighter note may we wish a Happy Birthday to the following residents who will be celebrating their birthdays this week: Paul Williams at Lench’s Close, Phillip Locke at Tanner’s Close and Patricia Bailey at William Lench Court; and to Joy Daffon, cleaner at William Lench Court.

On a brighter note may we wish a Happy Birthday to the following residents who will be celebrating their birthdays this week: Gerald Purnell at Lench’s Close, Kath Slade & Christine Berry at William Lench Court.

Leaving Home: As per the NHS advice this should be limited as much as possible. You must not leave, or be outside of your home or garden, except for a very limited set of exemptions e.g. to shop for basic necessities, exercise, or to escape risk of harm.

Do not leave home if you or anyone in your household has symptoms.

Meeting others: You cannot leave your home to meet socially with anyone, except with your household or support bubble (if eligible to form one). Stay 2 metres apart from anyone not in your household or support bubble, and always wear a mask when outside your home.

Support Bubble & Keyworkers: Residents who are alone and at risk of feeling isolated are still allowed to form a support bubble with another resident (who is also alone and without a keyworker) but it is important to remember that support bubbles are fixed and cannot be changed, to avoid further household mixing.

We have also introduced keyworkers for residents who require further support, either for their physical or mental health. Keyworkers should be limited to 1 per household, unless exceptional circumstances (shared care) and we have asked the Scheme Managers to review this to ensure there are no additional risks for the residents – for example with keyworkers who may be for personal or work reasons mixing with more than 1 household.

Look after your mental and physical wellbeing, and look after each other:

  • Take care of your mind as well as your body as you are staying at home;
  • Stay connected with others – think about how you can stay in touch with friends and family – by phone, messaging, video calls or social media;
  • Keep your mind active: read, write, play games, do crosswords, finish jigsaws, or try drawing and painting.

.

Resident Support & Wellbeing Service: Lench’s Trust is subscribing to a support service for staff and resident, which can be accessed as follows:
